Foxton picked up a hard fought 3 points away to Witchford on Saturday, after a 2-1 victory.
Foxton started well and had the home side on the back foot early on.
A deserved lead came on about 10 minutes, after Jake smashed the ball home from the 18-yard box, from Jack’s squared ball, after he had been set free by debutant Ryan Henry.
Henry stayed in thick of the action and had a couple of curling shots go over the bar himself. He then turned provider again, teeing up Jack, but his shot deflected narrowly over the bar.
Foxton looked good value for their lead, with Kaane Fehmi often setting up further attacks, with some deft touches, each time Foxton attacked - but no second goal came. As the half ended, the home team had a bout of pressure which Foxton dealt with well. Pinney in the Foxton goal came under some pressure, with a few dangerous balls whipped into the Foxton box, which he dealt with, with some good handling when under pressure.
The second half got under way and Foxton again started well, this resulted in goal no 2 for Williams, with a replica goal of his first.
Witchford nearly hit back immediately but their striker could only fire wide, when in a good position.
The game started to even out and was scrappy for a short spell, with neither side really taking control. Witchford slowly started to apply some pressure, mainly through some good long throws, which El’s and returning skipper Rob Gwynne, dealt with well. After surviving this bout of pressure, Foxton had a chance to kill of the game but both Antwan and Jack missed from close range.
Entering the last 10 minutes, Witchford again applied the pressure, with their lively sub (no 12) causing some problems, luckily, with no goals, and again a host of long throws. Eventually, the pressure paid off on 88 mins, when a set play was headed home from close range. This set up an edgy last few minutes for Foxton but after some good defending, they managed to pick up the full quota of points.
