Match Report – West Wratting vs. Foxton – League – 01.03.2025

March 2, 2025

Foxton picked up a hard-fought point after a 3-3 draw away to West Wratting.

Conditions made this a tough game for both sides but full credit to the Wratting ground staff who had done a good job on the ground in very testing conditions, once again.

Overall, the game was a pretty even affair, which had a bit of everything, good play, high energy and some over excitement.

The home side took in a 1 goal lead at halftime from a late deflected effort.

In the first minute of the second half, Foxton were dealt a blow when our keeper Duncan was forced off through injury, presumably from an awkward fall, when he came out deal with a cross. After a long stoppage, El’s had to go in goal and Stu stepped in to centre back.

Once play finally got back going, it was Wratting who scored again on the hour mark to claim a two-goal lead.

Five minutes later, Foxton hit back when Jez riffled home from the edge of the box to reduce the deficit.

After a wave of pressure and with our tails up, we drew level when Evan headed home Gillies driven cross from the right side.

Moments later, the home side restored their lead, after a strong run down the right and a ball into the box. An attempted clearance from the Foxton back line could only clatter into Sam’s face from close range, and unfortunately, trickle into the net.

Els then produced an excellent save from a header by the home striker, who look destined to score.

Foxton kept pushing and slowly managed to peg the home team back, who had by now gone down to 10 men after a second yellow to one of their players. He was joined shortly after by a teammate, who got sin binned, presumably, for something he had said.

Wratting camped in and Foxton kept stretching the game, using all the extra time and space due to the numerical advantage they had. The pressure finally told deep into stoppage time, when we were awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the box, which Liam tucked away under great pressure to earn us a deserved point from a tough game.
