Foxton picked up a point on Saturday with a 4-4 draw against Hardwick.
Foxton started brightly and in the first couple of minutes missed two good chances to take the lead. Navid headed over from close range and Evan shot wide after being played in by El’s.
Hardwick then took the lead against the run of play on 15 minutes, with a curled effort into the bottom corner.
Foxton kept playing and created another chance on the edge of the box, but Liam’s shot went wide of the post.
Hardwick then attacked again, and a decent opening sailed high over the bar.
Foxton were probably still on top and both Evan and El’s had opportunities but both shots were saved well by the impressive visiting keeper.
Hardwick then attacked again and doubled their lead just before the half, with another curled effort into the bottom corner.
HT 0-2
The second half got underway and was fairly even, Hardwick had the first opportunity of the half but were off target.
On 70 minutes Evan pulled one back after some good play between Liam and Charlie.
Now right back in the game at 2-1, Foxton let Hardwick regain their two-goal advantage and soon after a three-goal advantage, with two goals in as many minutes, to make it 1-4.
Foxton now started to look beaten, and heads started to drop. Hardwick looked dangerous on every attack with their tails up and high energy levels. After a dominant 15-minute spell they were guilty of missing several very clear chances when they should’ve killed us off. However, they didn’t and what happened in the last few minutes was quite remarkable and unbelievable at any level of football. In the 89th minute a chance fell Liam’s way, and he finished well to make it 2-4 ……. Too little too late……… or not??
In the 90th minute it was 3-4 when another move down the left and a good cross was headed home by Evan at the back post.
Hardwick were now all at sea, Foxton were full of beans and equalised from the spot, after Liam was fouled then dragged himself up, to smash home the penalty in the 93rd minute.
Then in the dying moments, Foxton attacked again, with Liam’s constant pressure causing the back line problems, he looked to have latched onto the ball but was knocked down by the visiting keeper, to earn a free kick just outside of the box.
After a long delay in play, with the keeper receiving treatment to a nasty head injury from the collision, Evans kick was well blocked by the big Hardwick wall and the final whistle went.
FT 4-4
This game also marked a 250th appearance for Evers after a solid 10+ years at Foxton. Quite a remarkable effort and amazing commitment from him. CONGRATULATIONS EVERS.
