Foxton progressed to the next round of the Challenge Cup on Saturday after a 3-1 win on penalties with the game ending 1-1.
Apologies for the lack of notes…. I got to into the game.
However, it was an even affair throughout with, few chances at either end.
After a tentative opening, the visitors took the lead on the half hour mark, from the penalty spot, after a foul on the box.
They also immediately doubled the lead, after a good flowing move down the right side. Pinney in the Foxton goal saved well, to keep it at 1.0.
Foxton really struggled on the attacking front and failed to cause Hardwick’s defence many problems.
The second half was a bit different, with Foxton showing a bit more urgency and work rate in their game. Jake nearly levelled early on, after Kaane had played him in but his shot was off target. Hardwick were beginning to look a little rattled, so it was good opportunity Foxton to gain the upper hand, but credit to Hardwick, as they stood tall and got through the small storm unscathed.
They then went on to have a bit of pressure themselves but this time it was Foxton’s defensive game that came out on top, to keep the opportunities down to a minimum.
Going into the last 10 minutes and still a goal down, Foxton tweaked their formation, and this had the desired effect almost straight away, as Mez pulled us level, with a finish from close range, after a good bit of play from Kaane.
The last few minutes were still competitive, with both sides still believing they could win the game.
However, it stayed 1-1 and onto the dreaded penalty shoot-out it went.
Foxton won the shoot-out 3-1, with Williams, Meredith & Fehmi all scoring.
Pinney in the Foxton goal proved to be the match winner saving 3 of the Hardwick pens.
