Match Report – Foxton vs Cambridge University Press – League – 23.03.24.

March 24, 2024

Foxtons unbeaten came to an end on Saturday, after a disappointing performance and result against a resurgent Press side, who were worthy of the win.

The first half was a struggle for Foxton, although we did have a couple of opportunities to score. Debutant, Callum Harrison, had a close-range shot saved by the keeper, Jake had an effort flash narrowly over the bar and Gillies, just couldn’t wrap his foot around a loose ball at the back post. But it was Press who had the better chances, with 2/3 good saves from our keeper Louis Williams.

Press took a deserved lead on about the half hour mark, after a good counter attacking goal move, resulted in an easy finish.

At the start of the second half the visitors could’ve almost wrapped up the game, they had one effort come back off the post, followed soon after, with a one-on-one chance, which went wide.

Foxton then drew level against the run of play, when Eliot Knight burst through on goal and slotted past the press keeper.

The game did even up for a while, with neither side really creating anything of much substance.

Press then regained the lead, after a host of errors led to shooting chance, which was slammed home from 20 yards out.

Five minutes later, it was 3-1 when a corner kick went straight in at the back post, another soft goal to concede.

Foxton kept going and in the 88th minute, pulled one back, when Alfie scored a beautiful free kick.

The visitors held firm and run the clock down well, to pick up a deserved 3 points.
