Match Report – Ely City Reserves vs. Foxton – League – 08.03.2025

March 9, 2025

Foxton picked up another 3 points on Saturday with a deserved 4-0 victory, away to Ely City Res.

Foxton started brightly and took an early two goal lead.

Evan latched on to Ed’s defence splitting pass and hammered past the keeper for the first goal, and Finn doubled the lead soon after, with a bullet header from Liam’s corner.

Foxton were looking dangerous when on the attack, but it was an Ely counterattack that caused the next talking point, when El’s committed a foul in/out of the penalty area (?) which resulted in a free kick on the edge of the box, which was headed wide by the outstretched head of an Ely player.

On the half hour mark, it was 3-0 when Ed and Evan again linked well, with Ed diverting Evan’s ball in the box, into the bottom corner past the hapless goalkeeper.

Soon after this, there was scramble in the Foxton box with a couple of good blocks keeping the scoreline 3-0 at half time.

The second half got underway, and Foxton managed to withstand any Ely pressure.

In all honesty, the second half was a pretty scrappy affair as far the football side of things went, but a decent controlled shape and organisation from Foxton, always gave them the upper hand.

Evan grabbed his second goal of the game on 75 minutes, when his tireless running forced the keeper to make a mistake in the box, which he was able to take full advantage of as he rolled the ball into an empty net.

Ely kept plugging away but failed to create any real clear-cut chances, with their best moment coming in the last couple of minutes but stand in keeper Shay Griffiths, tipped the ball over the bar.
