Match Report – Bassingbourn vs Foxton – League – 15.08.23

August 16, 2023

After Saturday’s 3-0 opening win against Over Sports, Foxton were back in action, away to Bassingbourn.

Foxton started the brighter of the two sides and should’ve taken an early lead, after good play between Mez, Jack Brandon, and Luca, presented Chappers with a chance from close range - but his effort was well blocked by the home keeper. On about 15 mins, Alfie O’Dell gave Foxton the lead, when he latched onto Pinney’s long clearance and headed the ball over the Bass keeper. Shortly after this, Jack Brandon pulled a shot wide of the post from the edge of the box. The game was now even, and Bass had a good chance to equalise, but their forward could only direct his effort on to the post. 2 minutes later and Bass were level with a close-range finish, after El’s made a bad error on the edge of the six-yard box.

Ten minutes later, Alfie grabbed his and Foxton's second goal, with a lovely curling effort from 25 yards that beat the diving home keeper. Just before half time Bass had another opportunity, after a good break but the forwards shot was saved by Pinney in the Foxton goal. Then just before half time, El’s had strong header, from Luca’s corner, cleared off the line.

Foxton started the second half quickly again and missed a couple of decent openings, Stuart Hoskins headed wide from Dusi’s corner and Jack D flashed a ball across the six-yard box, which somehow evaded everybody.

Jack D then latched onto a Hoskin’s ball in behind the full back, but his centre was put over the bar by El’s from close range.

Again, the game hit scrappy phase, with both teams not being able to string much together.

Foxton grabbed a third goal when El’s latched onto to Dusi’s pass and finished at the second time of asking.

Bass kept going and on 90 mins pulled a goal back to make it 3-2, via a wicked deflection from a free kick 20 yards out.

Foxton managed to see out the last 5 minutes without too much hassle. Deep into injury time, El’s got his second when he headed home Dusi’s cleaver free kick.
